A Musical Interlude

In one sense, Simon was right - we are all, in a sense, leaves on the same tree, working our way through the seasons of this life. Part of the whole, as it were - each one interconnected, even if we can't always see it.

But the more interesting part of the song, perhaps, is the bit about the pebble:
I threw a pebble in a brook
And watched the ripples run away
And they never made a sound.
As I watch this video, I can't help but wonder how many of the people in the audience that day have passed away since then. Each of them, in their own way, threw a pebble in the brook. We might never see where the ripples that the pebble makes wind up (or "hear" the sound they make), but they exist nonetheless. No matter how small, they linger on, even after the pebble has sunk beneath the water.
