Thought du jour - 22.03.11

It's been a while since I've offered a "thought du jour", so...

"The premises for revolution, on the cultural as well as the strictly political level, are not only ripe - they have begun to rot." - Guy Debord

From an English perspective, Mr Debord is probably correct although some 3 centuries late with the message.

One of the books that changed my perspective on revolutionary history was Christopher Hill's 'The World Turned Upside Down.' By hook or by crook, the Establishment always conquers.

Further back, we had Wat Tyler. His death, in my mind, still haunts the scenes of G8 summits when the protesters are kept out of sight and denied a voice. The people opted to trust King Richard and very little seems to have changed since. Instead of death by sword, iconoclasts are killed in the media by a thousand cuts.
